Fabric, not glass or metal, and the whole character of the light follows from that. Silk lets the output through the surface of the shade instead of only out of the ends, so when this is switched on the shade itself glows — a soft misty diffusion closer to a paper lantern than to a chandelier. Over a dining table it is a much easier light to sit under for two hours.

The shape comes out of wabi-sabi: gathered fabric, visible weave, no crystals and no tiers. It is deliberately quiet, which is why it works in rooms that already have a lot going on and in rooms that have almost nothing. The metal hardware inside carries the structure while the shade stays visually light.

Three diameters — 15.7, 19.7 and 23.6 inches — and the cord adjusts up to 47.2 inches, so you can set the shade about 30 to 36 inches above your tabletop, which is where a dining fixture wants to be. Choose a fixed warm white 3000K version or a three-colour version that switches between 3000K, 4500K and 6000K. Takes an E27 bulb, hardwired at 110V, indoor use.
