Description

A bollard does something a stake light cannot: it puts the light source above the planting, so the beam clears the foliage and lands on the paving where you actually walk. That is why every well-lit garden path uses them, and why they are worth the extra over a spike.

The body is black aluminium with a semi-transparent acrylic diffuser, so the light comes out soft and wide rather than as a hard spot. Two heights: 15.7 inches for edging a bed or a short run, 23.6 inches where you want the throw to reach further across wider paving. Two styles, A and B, with different head treatments.

Choose 3000K warm for a relaxed garden or 6000K white where you want maximum legibility on steps and level changes. IP65 rated, so rain and snow are fine. One thing to plan for: it is hardwired at 100-245V and runs off a wall switch, which means a cable run out to each position — budget for that before you order a row of them.

Common Questions
Is the price for one bollard?

Yes, the price shown is for ONE bollard. The photographs show two and three because that is how they are used along a path - add the quantity you need and the multi-buy discount applies automatically at checkout.

Why choose a bollard over a spike light?

Height. A bollard puts the source above the planting so the light clears the foliage and lands on the paving where you walk. A low spike light gets swallowed the moment the border grows, which is why paths lit with them look fine in spring and disappear by July.

Which height should I get?

15.7in for edging a bed or a narrow path where you want a low discreet marker. 23.6in where the paving is wider and you need the throw to reach further, or where planting is tall enough to swallow a shorter fixture.

Does it need an electrician?

Almost certainly. These are hardwired at 100-245V off a wall switch, which means a buried cable run to each position. Plan and cost that before ordering a row of them - it is the expensive part, not the fixtures. If you want no wiring, our solar path light is the alternative.

What is the difference between Style A and Style B?

Two different head treatments on the same body and in the same heights. Compare the first two gallery images side by side - the light output and build are identical, it is purely which silhouette suits your exterior.

Can it handle snow and frost?

Yes. IP65 in aluminium is built for permanent outdoor use through rain and snow. It is not rated for submersion, so avoid low spots where water collects and clear heavy snow from around the base rather than letting it sit buried.

How bright will this be, and how do I compare it to others?

Brightness is measured in lumens, not watts, so a low wattage LED can easily outshine an older bulb that draws far more power. The figures for this fixture are listed in the Details & Specifications dropdown above.

As a guide, accent and bedside lights are designed to shape a mood rather than flood a room, while ceiling, wall and post lights run brighter because they cover a wider area.

Do I need an electrician to install this?

It depends on how the fixture is powered. Solar, rechargeable and plug in fixtures need no wiring, and most people fit them themselves with basic tools.

Hardwired fixtures connect to your mains supply, and we recommend a qualified electrician for those. The Power Supply row in Details & Specifications tells you which one you are looking at.

Will it survive rain, snow and heat?

Outdoor fixtures carry an IP rating, shown as Waterproof in Details & Specifications. IP65 means fully sealed against dust and protected against water jets from any direction, which covers ordinary rain and snow.

Materials matter just as much. Aluminum and stainless bodies with tempered glass or polycarbonate shades hold their finish outdoors far better than all plastic fittings.

What will the light actually look like?

That comes down to color temperature, listed per product in Details & Specifications. Warm white around 3000K is a soft, slightly yellow light that suits homes and gardens.

Higher numbers look cooler and more blue white. That reads as brighter, but it is far less inviting in a living space.

How many do I need for my space?

Even spacing matters more than sheer quantity. A pair either side of a door or gate is the usual starting point.

For a fence line, path or driveway, most runs look right at four to eight fixtures spaced evenly apart. Gaps that are too wide leave dark patches between pools of light, which reads worse than fewer fixtures spaced properly.
