A reading light has one job and most wall sconces fail it: the light has to reach the page, not the wall beside it. The arm on this folds and extends, so you pull it out over the bed when you are reading and fold it flat against the wall when you are not. That is the whole argument for a swing arm.

Two reaches. Type A extends about 27.6 inches — the one for a bed, where you need to clear the mattress edge and get over the page. Type B is more compact at about 23.6 inches, better beside a desk, a chair or in a hallway where a long arm would be in the way.

The source is COB rather than a scattered LED array, which gives a tighter, more even beam — that is why it works for reading where a diffuse sconce does not. Which should I pick, Type A or Type B?

Measure from the wall to where the page will be. Type A extends about 27.6 inches, which is what you need to clear a mattress and reach over a book. Does the 3-color version dim?

No. It switches colour temperature between 3000K, 4500K and 6000K at the same brightness. There is no dimming on either version. We would rather be clear about that than have you discover it after install.

Is it really bright enough to read by?

That is the point of the COB source. A scattered LED array spreads light everywhere and lands little of it on the page, whereas COB gives a tighter, more even beam. Pull the arm out over the book and it works as a reading light rather than a decorative glow.

Does the arm stay where I put it?

It holds position on friction joints, so you set it and it stays. Like any swing arm the joints can loosen over years of daily folding; nipping up the pivot screw restores the tension.

How is it switched on?

It hardwires at 110V and runs off your wall switch. There is no cord, no plug and no pull chain. Beside a bed that usually means putting it on the same switch loop as your existing bedside point, so plan the position before you cut.
