Common Questions

Do I get one or two?

One. Several of the photographs show a pair either side of a bed because that is the usual fit, but the price is for a single light. Add two to the cart if you want both sides.

How far does the head move?

Enough to swing the beam from straight down the wall to across onto a book. That is the whole difference between this and a fixed reading light, and it is why it costs a little more.

Square or round?

Same size, same light, same price. Square sits better with panelling and rectangular headboards, round is softer against a plain wall. Pick whichever matches the rest of the room.

How bright will this be, and how do I compare it to others?

Brightness is measured in lumens, not watts, so a low wattage LED can easily outshine an older bulb that draws far more power. The figures for this fixture are listed in the Details & Specifications dropdown above.

As a guide, accent and bedside lights are designed to shape a mood rather than flood a room, while ceiling, wall and post lights run brighter because they cover a wider area.

Do I need an electrician to install this?

It depends on how the fixture is powered. Solar, rechargeable and plug in fixtures need no wiring, and most people fit them themselves with basic tools.

Hardwired fixtures connect to your mains supply, and we recommend a qualified electrician for those. The Power Supply row in Details & Specifications tells you which one you are looking at.

What will the light actually look like?

That comes down to color temperature, listed per product in Details & Specifications. Warm white around 3000K is a soft, slightly yellow light that suits homes and gardens.

Higher numbers look cooler and more blue white. That reads as brighter, but it is far less inviting in a living space.
