Common Questions

Do I need an electrician or an outlet nearby?

No. It's battery operated, with a built-in rechargeable battery, so it works on any wall, including walls with no outlet. Nothing gets wired, and no cord runs down the wall.

Which size do I need?

Measure the width of your frame and pick a light about half to two-thirds of it. The 18 inch suits frames around 27 to 36 inches wide, the 22 inch around 33 to 44 inches, the 30 inch around 45 to 60 inches, and the 39 inch the largest pieces. For art under 24 inches wide, see our smaller Cordless Picture Light.

How long does the battery last?

About 8 hours on high and up to 24 hours on medium. Most people run it in the evening at a lower setting, so one charge covers several nights. A full charge takes about 6 hours.

Can I hang it myself?

Yes. It screws to the wall above the frame, and nothing needs to be wired or plugged in. Most people hang it themselves in a few minutes.

What can I use it on besides paintings?

Anything wide you hang on a wall: family portraits, framed photos, prints, mirrors, or a gallery wall. If it deserves attention in the evening, it works.

Will it make my art look blue or get hot?

Set it to warm white, the setting we recommend for paintings, portraits, and anything with rich color. Neutral and cool are there too, and every setting dims from the remote or the touch switch. The LED runs cool, so no heat reaches the canvas, print, or photo.

Will it look cheap on my wall?

It has a metal body and a classic double-arm design in an antique brass finish, the look that suits traditional and gilded frames.

What if it doesn't look right on my wall?

Try it at home for 30 days. If it isn't what you pictured, send it back and we'll refund you in full. There are no restocking fees and no questions to answer.

How bright will this be, and how do I compare it to others?

Brightness is measured in lumens, not watts, so a low wattage LED can easily outshine an older bulb that draws far more power. The figures for this fixture are listed in the Details & Specifications dropdown above.

As a guide, accent and bedside lights are designed to shape a mood rather than flood a room, while ceiling, wall and post lights run brighter because they cover a wider area.

Do I need an electrician to install this?

It depends on how the fixture is powered. Solar, rechargeable and plug in fixtures need no wiring, and most people fit them themselves with basic tools.

Hardwired fixtures connect to your mains supply, and we recommend a qualified electrician for those. The Power Supply row in Details & Specifications tells you which one you are looking at.

What will the light actually look like?

That comes down to color temperature, listed per product in Details & Specifications. Warm white around 3000K is a soft, slightly yellow light that suits homes and gardens.

Higher numbers look cooler and more blue white. That reads as brighter, but it is far less inviting in a living space.
