Common Questions

What makes this different from a plain cone sconce?

The curved arm and the round wood backplate. The arm carries the shade out and down from the wall, and the wood softens what would otherwise be an all-metal fixture.

Where does the light go?

Down onto whatever is beneath it: a book, a pillow, the arm of a chair. It is a reading light, not a room light.

Is the backplate real wood?

Yes, natural wood. It is the detail that makes it sit well in a room with oak or walnut furniture.

Black, white or grey?

Grey and white recede into a painted wall and let the wood do the work. Black gives the cone a sharp graphic outline.

Does it hardwire?

Yes, to a standard wall box. If there is no box beside the bed, that is an electrician job.

Is the price for one sconce?

Yes, the price is for one. Ordering 2 or more applies a discount automatically at checkout.

How bright will this be, and how do I compare it to others?

Brightness is measured in lumens, not watts, so a low wattage LED can easily outshine an older bulb that draws far more power. The figures for this fixture are listed in the Details & Specifications dropdown above.

As a guide, accent and bedside lights are designed to shape a mood rather than flood a room, while ceiling, wall and post lights run brighter because they cover a wider area.

Do I need an electrician to install this?

It depends on how the fixture is powered. Solar, rechargeable and plug in fixtures need no wiring, and most people fit them themselves with basic tools.

Hardwired fixtures connect to your mains supply, and we recommend a qualified electrician for those. The Power Supply row in Details & Specifications tells you which one you are looking at.

What will the light actually look like?

That comes down to color temperature, listed per product in Details & Specifications. Warm white around 3000K is a soft, slightly yellow light that suits homes and gardens.

Higher numbers look cooler and more blue white. That reads as brighter, but it is far less inviting in a living space.
